TurboScribe Review 2026: Is It Safe, Free and Worth It?

Is TurboScribe safe and free? Its limits, prices and privacy terms, checked October 2026, plus when paying once for a single file is cheaper.

TurboScribe is a legitimate transcription service. Its free plan allows three files a day of up to 30 minutes each, and its Unlimited plan costs $20 a month, or $10 a month billed yearly, according to its pricing page checked in October 2026. Whether it's safe for you depends on its privacy terms, quoted below.

Short answer: yes, TurboScribe is a legitimate service with a large public review history on Trustpilot. Its free plan covers 3 files a day of up to 30 minutes each, and Unlimited is good value if you transcribe long files every month. For one long recording, paying once costs less than a month of Unlimited: on TranscribTxt the full file is $5 once with a Week Pass that never renews.

Verdict

TurboScribe does what it says. You upload a file, wait, and download the transcript. Its free plan is generous for short files. Unlimited is fairly priced for people with long recordings every week, and it lists speaker recognition, which TranscribTxt doesn't offer.

It fits less well for a one-off job. A 2-hour recording needs the paid plan, and the paid plan is a subscription. Its privacy promises are clear, but they are the company's own statements, so it's worth reading them before you upload a confidential interview.

Is TurboScribe safe?

For a transcription service, "safe" mostly means how it handles your recordings. Here is what TurboScribe says, from its own pages, checked on 26 October 2026:

  • Encryption. Its tool pages promise "AES-256 encryption at rest and HTTPS for all connections".
  • AI training. It says TurboScribe "never uses your uploads to train AI models".
  • Retention. Its privacy policy says the content you upload is stored on its servers. "Unless you delete this content," it may be kept as long as your account is active. Deleted content and deleted accounts are purged from its systems, backups included, within 90 days.

What this means in practice: your files stay in your account until you delete them. If a recording is sensitive, delete it once you have the transcript. If you work under a confidentiality rule, such as a client agreement, a research ethics approval or health data, check whether you may upload to any cloud service at all.

For comparison, TranscribTxt deletes an upload from its storage after processing and doesn't store transcripts. The one exception is a free preview of a longer file: that upload is kept for up to 24 hours so you can finish the file without uploading again.

TurboScribe's free limits

Per TurboScribe's pricing page, checked 26 October 2026, the free plan allows:

  • 3 transcripts a day;
  • files up to 30 minutes each;
  • one upload at a time, with lower priority than paid jobs.

A file longer than 30 minutes isn't refused. In our own test on 20 October 2026, the free plan transcribed the first 30 minutes of a 2-hour file and offered Unlimited for the rest. That makes the free plan a fair way to judge accuracy on your own audio before paying.

TurboScribe pricing

TurboScribe has one paid plan, Unlimited, per its pricing page (checked 26 October 2026):

  • $20 a month, billed monthly;
  • $10 a month billed yearly, which is $120 paid up front for the year;
  • files up to 10 hours and 5 GB each;
  • up to 50 files uploaded at once.

For one file, the yearly price doesn't help: you'd pay $120 to get the $10 rate. If you transcribe several long recordings every month, though, $10 a month for Unlimited is good value.

What users report

On TurboScribe's Trustpilot page, reviews are public and mixed, as for most tools of this kind; read the most recent ones yourself before you subscribe. Our own count of complaints across several transcription tools is in our TurboScribe alternatives post.

Recent five-star reviews praise the speed, the accuracy on difficult recordings and the free plan. Recent one-star reviews, from October 2026, describe:

  • transcripts that repeat or stop partway through long files;
  • a limit on batch uploads that the reviewer didn't expect on Unlimited;
  • support emails that got no reply;
  • a charge after cancelling.

We can't verify individual reviews, and review sites tend to collect very good and very bad experiences more than average ones. The practical takeaway applies to any subscription: if you subscribe for one job, note the renewal date and cancel before it.

When one file is cheaper

If you have one long recording, the choice is between a month of a subscription and a single payment. On TurboScribe, a 2-hour file costs $20 for a month of Unlimited. On TranscribTxt, it costs $5 once with a Week Pass, which never renews. Here's how that works:

  1. Upload the recording on TranscribTxt, up to 2 GB. Your first file needs no account.
  2. Read the free part. If the file is longer than 30 minutes, the first 30 minutes are transcribed free, so you can judge the quality first.
  3. Buy the Week Pass only if you're happy with it. It's $5 once for 7 days of Pro, up to 25 hours of audio. The full file is transcribed without uploading it again, if you buy within 24 hours.
  4. Download TXT or SRT. After 7 days the pass simply ends; nothing renews.

If you transcribe every week, compare plans instead: TurboScribe Unlimited at $10 a month billed yearly, or TranscribTxt Pro at $10 a month, up to 100 hours of audio a month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TurboScribe safe to use?

It's a legitimate service, and its own pages promise 'AES-256 encryption at rest and HTTPS for all connections' and say TurboScribe 'never uses your uploads to train AI models' (checked 26 Oct 2026). Its privacy policy says uploaded content may be kept as long as your account is active unless you delete it, and that deleted content is purged within 90 days. These are the company's own statements, so read the policy before uploading anything confidential.

Is TurboScribe free?

Yes, with limits. Per TurboScribe's pricing page (checked 26 Oct 2026), the free plan allows 3 files a day, up to 30 minutes each, one file at a time. For a longer file, our own test on 20 Oct 2026 showed the free plan transcribing the first 30 minutes. The full file needs the Unlimited plan.

What is TurboScribe's file size limit?

On the free plan a file can be up to 30 minutes long. On Unlimited, TurboScribe lists files up to 10 hours and 5 GB each, with up to 50 files uploaded at a time (checked 26 Oct 2026).

Is TurboScribe worth $20 for one file?

Only if you'll use the rest of the month. A single long recording costs $20 on TurboScribe because the paid plan is a subscription. On TranscribTxt the first 30 minutes are free and the full file is $5 once with a Week Pass that never renews. If you transcribe long files every week, compare TurboScribe Unlimited with our Pro plan at $10 a month instead.

Does TurboScribe use Whisper?

TurboScribe says so: its site describes the service as 'Powered by Whisper', the open-source speech model released by OpenAI. That is TurboScribe's own claim; we haven't verified what runs behind it.
