Where to find your Zoom recording
Local recording: after the meeting ends, Zoom converts it. The default folder is Documents/Zoom (Windows: C:\Users\<name>\Documents\Zoom, Mac: /Users/<name>/Documents/Zoom), with one folder per meeting. It usually holds a video (zoom_0.mp4) and an audio-only file (audio_only.m4a). Let the conversion finish before you close Zoom. If it did not run, click Convert in the Zoom desktop app. The M4A is a smaller upload with the same speech.
Cloud recording (paid Zoom plans): sign in at zoom.us, open Recording & Transcripts, then Cloud recordings. Open the meeting and click Download. Pick the audio file if one is offered.

How do I transcribe a Zoom recording, and where does Zoom save it?
Local recordings go to the Documents/Zoom folder on your computer (Windows and Mac); cloud recordings on paid plans are under Recording & Transcripts on zoom.us. Zoom usually saves the video as an MP4 and the audio-only version as an M4A. Upload either file to TranscribTxt and download the text. In October 2026, half of the uploaded files were transcribed in 14 seconds or less, and a 145-minute recording took 2 minutes 45 seconds. Times don't include uploading, which depends on your connection.
Does Zoom transcribe meetings automatically?
Zoom's own transcript works for cloud recordings on paid plans when audio transcript is enabled. Uploading the recording to TranscribTxt works on any plan (including free Zoom), for local recordings, for meetings in other languages (99 supported), and when you need an SRT file.
Is Zoom transcription free?
Yes, to start. First file without sign-up, 3 a week with a free account. For a longer Zoom recording, the first 30 minutes are free and the whole file (up to 3 h) US$2. Pro costs US$10 a month and covers up to 100 h of audio. SRT export is included on every plan.
How accurate is the transcript?
Accuracy depends on the audio. Clear recordings with good microphones usually work best; calls with people talking over each other, a weak connection, or background noise are harder. TranscribTxt does not label who is speaking.
Can I transcribe Teams and Google Meet recordings too?
