In short
To transcribe a long recording, upload the audio or video file, up to 2 GB: MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV and more. The first 30 minutes are free, so you can check the text before you pay. The whole file, up to 3 hours, is US$2 once. For longer files, or several in a week, take the US$5 Week Pass.
How do I transcribe a 2-hour recording?
Pick your file
Drop the audio or video file into the box at the top of this page: MP3, M4A, WAV, MP4, MOV, MKV and more, up to 2 GB. Your first file needs no account. On a phone, keep the page open until the upload finishes.
Read the first 30 minutes free
A file over 30 minutes goes straight to a free preview, so you read the first 30 minutes as text before you pay. We keep that upload for up to 24 hours, so you can finish it without uploading again.
Get the whole file for US$2
One payment covers the whole file, up to 3 hours, and it never renews. We transcribe the rest of the same upload.
Copy or download the text
Click Copy text, or download the transcript as TXT, or as SRT with timestamps. A Week Pass or Pro adds Word and JSON downloads.

Is your video over 2 GB?
Upload only its audio. The words are all in the sound track, and an audio file of the same recording is a fraction of the size. Most video editors can export the audio track as MP3, M4A or WAV, and a local Zoom recording usually comes with an audio-only M4A next to the MP4.
How fast is a long file transcribed?
In October 2026, half of the uploaded files were transcribed in 14 seconds or less, and a 145-minute recording took 2 minutes 45 seconds. Times don't include uploading, which depends on your connection.

Common questions
How do I transcribe a 2-hour audio or video file?
Upload the file to TranscribTxt, up to 2 GB: audio or video, such as MP3, M4A, MP4 or MOV. The first 30 minutes are transcribed free, so you can check the text. To get all 2 hours, pay US$2 once: it covers the whole file, up to 3 hours, and the rest is transcribed from the same upload.
How large an audio or video file can I transcribe?
Up to 2 GB per file, on every plan, free included. Without paying, a file over 500 MB is transcribed as the free 30-minute preview. If a video is bigger than 2 GB, upload just its audio instead.
How much does it cost to transcribe a 3-hour recording?
On TranscribTxt, US$2 once. The first 30 minutes are free, and that one payment covers the whole file, up to 3 hours. It never renews.
Do I need a subscription for one long recording?
No. On TranscribTxt, one file up to 3 hours is US$2 once. For a longer file or several in a week, the 7-day Week Pass is US$5 once and never renews. Pro, at US$10/mo, is for regular work and renews until you cancel.
What if my recording is longer than 3 hours?
The US$2 price covers one file up to 3 hours. For a longer file, take the Week Pass (US$5, up to 25 hours of audio in 7 days) or Pro (up to 100 h of audio a month): both take files up to 2 GB. For a YouTube video with captions, paste the link on TranscribTxt's YouTube to text page instead: it's free, for videos up to 5 hours without an account, and a free account lifts that limit.
Can I check the transcript before I pay?
Yes. The first 30 minutes of a long file are transcribed free on TranscribTxt, so you read real text from your own recording first. We keep that upload for up to 24 hours: pay in that time and the rest is transcribed without uploading again. First file without sign-up, 3 a week with a free account.
Will a 2-hour recording take hours to transcribe?
No. In October 2026, half of the uploaded files were transcribed in 14 seconds or less, and a 145-minute recording took 2 minutes 45 seconds. Times don't include uploading, which depends on your connection.
My video is over 2 GB. What can I do?
Upload only its audio. The words are all in the sound track, and an audio file of the same recording is a fraction of the size. Most video editors can export the audio track as MP3, M4A or WAV, and a local Zoom recording usually comes with an audio-only M4A next to the MP4. TranscribTxt takes files up to 2 GB.
Which formats work, and what about videos with several audio tracks?
Video: MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and M4V. Audio: MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus and AAC. If a video has several audio tracks, as OBS or ShadowPlay recordings can, TranscribTxt compares the first four and transcribes the loudest one. Tracks aren't mixed together, so if each speaker is on a separate track, export one mixed audio file first.
Will the transcript show who is speaking?
No. TranscribTxt doesn't label speakers: the transcript is one continuous text. SRT adds a timestamp to every line, which makes it easy to find a moment in a long recording.
What happens to my file?
Your file is deleted from our storage after processing, and we don't store transcripts. If you take the free 30-minute preview of a longer file, we keep that upload for up to 24 hours so you can finish it without uploading again.
